Kimberley’s Platzl is the nucleus of a full complement of year round festivals and events. From the Kimberley International Oldtime Accordion Championships to the Arts on the Edge festival, Kimberley provides weekend entertainment for people of all ages. The Bootleg Sled Dog Races are a popular annual event featuring 6-dog 6-mile Open and Purebred classes, 4-dog 4-mile Open and Purebred classes, 2-dog 4-mile Skijoring and a 2-dog 2-mile Junior class.

Every year the Kimberley Summer Theater, a group of Canadian actors, produce a stage show (generally a musical comedy for all the family, performed in the local theatre) and a Vaudeville show (a free, half hour variety show, performed outdoors in the Platzl). The shows and five-week drama school run in July and August.

Just up from the Platzl is Centre 64, the centre of Kimberley’s arts community. Centre 64 houses the Gallery, with its two exhibition spaces, the Studio for Dance & Music, the Theatre, the Fibre Artists Guild Room and the Arts Council office. Future plans include an on-site Ceramic Arts Studio.

The Underground Mining Railway takes you from downtown, through the Lower Mark Creek Valley, the old Teck Cominco powerhouse and on into the Kimberley Alpine Resort. You can ride the train into a tunnel where you experience first hand how it felt to be an underground miner during the heyday of the Sullivan Mine. When the train stops at the Resort, hop on board the North Star Express Quad Chair for a trip to the top of the mountain and enjoy a spectacular view of the Rocky Mountains.
