The City of Kimberley has a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational facilities that serve the community and visitors.

Indoor Recreation Facilties

Two indoor arenas, complete with regulation size ice surfaces, spectator seating, dressing rooms and concession facilities.

An Aquatic Centre with a competition 25 metre pool complete with diving boards. A multipurpose leisure pool complete with tots pool, water features and lazy river. There is a large 20-person whirlpool with panoramic views of the mountains and a multipurpose room and steam room in the facility. The facility is completely accessible for persons with disabilities.

The Kimberley Conference and Athlete Training Centre is currently under construction with an anticipated opening date of October 2010. Reservations are being accepted now, contact Heather Hornoi, Economic Development Officer to book at 250-427-9666 or email hhornoi@city.kimberley.bc.ca.

The Kimberley Curling Club is a six-sheet facility complete with spectator viewing, lounge, kitchen, changing rooms and snack bar.

The Kimberley Public Library has a great collection of books and offers family library programs and services. In the upper level of the building is the Kimberley Heritage Museum. Its display depicts the earlier history of Kimberley with a major focus on the community’s mining heritage.

Centennial Centre is a multipurpose community hall with a commercial kitchen and banquet facilities for up to 200 people. In the lower part of the facility is the Kimberley Senior Centre that offers numerous programs and support services for seniors in the community.

Centre 64 is Kimberley’s Arts Centre. It has a 60-seat theatre, art gallery, dance studio/hall and arts and craft rooms.

Kimberley Gymnastics Club is an equipped gymnastics centre offering gymnastic training programs.

Other notable community facilities are:

McKim Theatre located at McKim School is a 500-seat theatre and hosts a variety of performing arts activities.

The Kimberley Indoor Sports Centre located adjacent to Selkirk High School is a 2 court indoor tennis facility which is available for school and community use.

Oughtred Hall is a small community hall and is home to the Kimberley Air Cadet Squadron.

Along with these facilities are private halls, bowling alleys, schools, a movie theatre and the Spark Centre for youths.

Outdoor Recreation Facilities

There are many outdoor parks, playgrounds and athletic fields.

Lois Creek Rink is flooded in the winter for outdoor skating and during the summer months there is basketball and roller hockey at this outoor facility.

Rotary Park Tennis Courts are available for public use.

The Kimberley Skatepark and the Mountain Bike Skills Park are located on a parcel of land just off the trailhead of the Lions Trail System at the corner of Marsden and Rotary Drive. The seating and viewing areas established around the skateboard and bike parks are also used as a community meeting place for users of the trail system.

There are many kilometres of trails and pathways in Kimberley for biking and hiking. The Kimberley Nature Park has 851 hectares of natural area with a diverse array of flora and fauna. The park has an extensive trail system for hikers and mountain bikers. The Kimberley-Cranbrook Rail Trail is a 40 km paved path for walking, cycling, blading and skateboarding that links the communities of Kimberley and Cranbrook.

Marysville Falls Eco Park is landscaped with native plants and materials and allows visitors to get close to Mark Creek and learn about the Mark Creek ecosystem. A short walk from the park down the boardwalk is Marysville Falls.

There are Kimberley lawn bowling greens with club and community activities.

The Kimberley Riverside Campground is a full service campground and RV resort located beside the St. Mary River.

The Platzl, a pedestrian mall in the heart of Kimberley, is beautifully landscaped complete with a bandshell for community functions and performances.

Cominco Gardens is a beautifully landscaped public garden with annual displays of thousands of flowers for residents and visitors to enjoy.
