rails to trails

View of rail trailThe “Rails to Trails” development is a joint project between the City of Kimberley, the City of Cranbrook and the Regional District of the East Kootenay to create a commuter and recreation trail between Cranbrook and Kimberley . The abandoned CP railway track between Kimberley and Cranbrook has been removed and converted into a 40km greenway that provides access to both communities and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by promoting an alternative transportation solution. This wheelchair accessible pathway encourages healthy living through cycling, walking and other recreational opportunities while promoting tourism and sustainability within our communities.

The trail runs along the main artery, Hwy 95A, connecting Kimberley and Cranbrook as well as threading its way through the City of Kimberley from Marysville to the Aquatic Centre on Rotary Drive. This greenway encourages multi-use, non-motorized recreational activities while meeting the diverse needs of the community from seniors to young families. It is a convenient, attractive and fully sustainable amenity that contributes to the enjoyment and well-being of resident and visitor alike.
