Kimberley has maintained a friendly, small town atmosphere. The people who live here demonstrate great community spirit with their active volunteerism and participation in community festivals and events. Recreational pursuits include world-class skiing at the Kimberley Alpine Resort and on the Nordic trail system; fishing in the many mountain lakes, streams, and rivers; hiking the Purcell or Rocky Mountains; or golfing one of Kimberley ’s three championship golf courses. The community has an aquatic centre and a full complement of sports, recreational and cultural programs for all ages.

Kimberley has hundreds of kilometers of trails. Outdoor enthusiasts can participate in a wide variety of trail recreation opportunities in Kimberley and the surrounding area. The NorthStar Rail Trail, designed for walking, running, biking and rollerblading, is a 40 km trail connecting Kimberley and Cranbrook. The Kimberley end of the trail begins at the Civic Centre on Rotary Drive, winding its way to Marysville before heading into the valley toward Cranbrook. The Kimberley Nature Park rises from an elevation of 975 meters along the St. Mary Lake Road to over 1600 meters on the shoulder of North Star Mountain. This park is over 800 hectares (that is two times the size of Stanley Park ) and features more than 100 kilometers of trails displaying a diverse landscape of hills, ridges, valleys and plateaus. The Lions Trails run between Kimberley and Marysville and give you a choice of pathways ranging from narrow to wide, flat to rocky and sunny to shady. With all the trails to choose from, whether you are seeking a peaceful walk, a thrilling technical ride or a family outing, you will find what you are looking for.
