Public safety and security are essential to our community. Efforts are made to ensure cost effective service to the community by coordinating these efforts with other public service providers.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) presently provides police protection in Kimberley . The RCMP detachment is committed to working with residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations to address crime related issues and offer victims services.

Emphasis is placed on prevention and preparedness in fire and emergency planning. The City’s Fire Department strives to provide an effective response of properly equipped, well-trained personnel to suppress fire. The department currently consists of a full-time Fire Chief and Deputy Chief and 35 paid-on-call firefighters. Providing resources are available, the City endeavours to maintain rapid response by providing effective equipment as recommended by current standard practice. The City has recently constructed a second fire station in Marysville to improve the response time to calls at the southern reaches of the City.

The City prepared the Emergency Response and Recovery Plan to provide disaster services and an evacuation plan in the event of an emergency. Kimberley Search and Rescue Society (KSAR) is a group of over 35 trained volunteers who respond to requests from the RCMP and others for assistance in locating and rescuing lost or injured persons. KSAR is responsible for serving an area of over 10,000 square kilometers. KSAR members are experienced in tracking, survival, navigation, rope rescue, avalanche rescue, swift water rescue, first aid and other disciplines. Emergency first aid in Kimberley is provided by the BC Ambulance Service.
